Now don’t get me wrong, there are a lot of different races that have been awesome this year, and even the Sprint Cup race at Infineon was really boring, so road courses aren’t always perfect. But those tracks can be run differently with the differences in the tracks, particularly with the fact that you can have course specific cautions, not always having to have entire full course cautions.

That’s a nice change from the normal, for it is a rarity when a full course caution comes out that isn’t for a major wreck as opposed to a single car spin or somethingl like that. The boys really let it out when they race at a road course, and that’s plain exciting to me! I love the variety in the tracks, the way it’s not at all like the other races. In the NFL you always have 100 yards of field, with two scoring zones. In the NBA you always have a square court with goals at either end of the court. In the MLB you always hit a ball and run in a basic diamond shape. That’s it. Even with the difference in field type or look, it’s always the same every time. But NASCAR’s not even close to being like that. Granted, most of the tracks are run in left turns. But the track differences and variety of track makes, so to speak, sets NASCAR up far above the other sports when it comes to variety. NASCAR 09, released in 2008 by EA sports, was a terrible game. It wasn’t realisitic at all, and it just plain wasn’t fun. The cars were all generic, meaning no Chevy’s or Ford’s, just cars. The cars are basically the same, so to an extent I can understand that. But the cars in reality do have some differences in the vehicals, and that should be reflected in the game. But it’s not. But that’s all a thing of the past now. NASCAR the Game 2011 wasn’t made by the horrible EA sports, who can’t make a sports game to save their lives.

It’s sad that that Madden series sells as well as it does. It was made by Activision, and they really did a good job with this game. It gives justice to NASCAR.

First off the game will have DLC, downloadable content. Meaning if the sponsors change, or the drivers or whatever, you will be able to download content to change the game to reflect that. Now that’s just awesome to me. The individual drivers stats are included too. For instance, Kyle Busch is very likely to run you deep in the turn and keep right on you until you pass and even then will run you harder than you’d like. Wheras Mark Martin will give you plenty of room, but still race you. If you’ve ticked a driver off he’ll drive you really hard and make it hell to pass him. And if you do pass he’ll let you know how mad he is by hitting you from behind. EA sports tried to do a version of this, but of course failed. In this game it truly works, and that’s really cool over the course of a race to experience. Another thing that’s cool about this game to me is the beginning introduction process, with commentators and flyovers like in real life. It’s been since NASCAR 2003, in my playing experience anyways, that I’ve seen this. So it’s really neat to see the feature included.

The car’s themselves finally have differences in them, so you can see a Toyota and know that it’s one, a Chevy a Chevy and so on. That’s been missing for a couple of games, so it’s nice to see that back and put some actual realism back into the cars. The celebration after a win is really interactive too, giving you 60 seconds to celebrate however you want, with awesome burnouts being my choice of show. The only really bad thing about this game, and it’s really tough to forgive, is the cautions. The rarity of the caution flags are really a deathblow to this otherwise perfect game. You can get totally spun out and the caution not fly. You can even drive intentionally backwards and the caution not come out. That’s totally wrong. There should be a DLC patch for it to fix it, but until I see it this is a major setback. But this game does right in a lot of ways, so I’ll overlook that. But I’m really hoping they fix it so as to make this the perfect NASCAR console game experience.

I’ve been to Texas Motor Speedway at least 8 times. And boy I’ll tell you, it’s a totally different ball game than watching it on television. A live NASCAR race has all the excitement you see on television, but totally enhanced in every way. The sound of the flyover, the sound of the cars as they fire up for the first time, the pace laps and how tense and exciting it is. NASCAR is my favorite sport, and it’s always going to be in this system of things. But it definitely knows no rival when it comes to being there in person versus any other sport.
